Stealing Colored Images!

It is with regret that I have to write this! I share my cards with fellow crafters because I LOVE to!  I have sat back and ignored when two people specifically copied my tutorials that I wrote and took them as their ideas, I sat back when a lady was selling CD's with my cards on them, and now there is someone scanning MY colored images and claiming them to be her own  and selling them on Ebay.  My mind just does not work in this crooked manner to even think of scanning someone else's images.  It takes me over an hour and a half to color each of the images and for someone to scan them in a few seconds, cut it out, and plop it on a card, just gets my angry.  I will be adding a copyright clause to my sidebar AND putting the ugly watermark over all my images, because this is just WRONG!!!!!!  I try like the dickens to give credit where credit is due when I create a card and I would appreciate the same.  So please do not scan my colored images or use my work for profit.  Thank goodness for my sweet friends who let me know when these things are happening.  I can no longer be silent though, and felt it needed to be addressed.  I am totally good with people using an idea here and there that I may come up with like flower arrangement or layout, that is what we all do is share ideas, but when you use a specific idea (such as a tutorial), credit needs to be given.  It really is just common courtesy!

Thank you for all the sweet supportive people that follow my work and know when it is done by me!  I am sorry that I will have to be putting the watermark over the image now.  I feel that distracts from the card, but I guess you have to do what you have to do.  Sooooo sad!!!

Thank you all for listening and understanding my frustration!

Dena

oh Dena...you are quite right!! I think it's awful the lengths some people go to make some cash on other peoples talents. Your work is amazing and you should be recognised for it and not the seller on ebay...shame on you ebay seller!!

Awwwww, this stinks!!! This could be one of the more extreme cases of copying I've ever heard of!!! I think what you've said is well-put and I'm sorry that you've got to go through the trouble of adding clauses, watermarks, etc. I just don't understand these stamper outlaws completely disregarding rules and even common courtesy, ugh....

Awww Dena my lovely, I am so very sorry to hear that this has happened to you. The blog world is so not what is used to be and there appears to be this minority out there that think that it is ok to do this with no thought or regard for others.

Well done you for speaking out, I am so proud of you, hun. Your such a lovely, generous person and I feel so lucky to have met you in real life too :o)

Sending you big hugs!

Sadly, some people will always spoil it for the majority who wouldn't dream of doing something so despicable!

Of course, your colouring is awesome and who wouldn't love to have such talent..I certainly would! But what pride is there in claiming someone elses hard work as your own.

No morals, no conscience and no manners!!
I am so sorry this has happened to you Dena, and I would rather you watermarked all over your cards than stopped sharing them with the genuine crafters who love to see them.

Big hugs

Hi Dena, you've got to be joking! You know this is not the first time I heard stories like this, it's just unbelievable! I've actually asked someone to make me a watermark too because of this even though I don't like the effect. How low can you go?!
Hugs, Frea

Well said Dena and so sorry to hear this has happened to you! I've had someone pinch one of my tutorials that I spent hours figuring out and claim it as their own too with not even the slightest mention of mine so I know where you're coming from! It's terrible that people think they can plagerise people's creations like this! big hugs sweetie, Jane xxx

You are probably one of the top three card crafters that I look to for inspiration. Your creations are stunningly beautiful and I'm so thankful that you share them with us all. It's a total shame that someone has tried to take credit for your beautiful work. I'm so sorry that this has put a damper on your crafting world. I came up against the same thing on YouTube. I did a tutorial on some paper flowers and clearly gave credit to the wonderful and talented European lady who came up with the idea, but shortly afterwards someone else (one of my followers) took the idea and totally blew it up as their own and so many unknowing people bought into it. The orignator shared that in good faith and her generosity was abused. Same here with you. It's a shame you'll have to "mark" your work for safety, but I can assure you I'll enjoy it even with a BIG watermark. :-) Hugs to you Dena!

Therese said...

So sorry to hear. People should be ashamed of them self...this is really low.
You are one of my favorite card maker and I love to look at your creations and get inspired and also try to learn from you, especially when it comes to your coloring. I would never, ever think of using your colored images...what fun would that be? NO!
Keep up the good work, I can`t wait to see your next creation. ;) :))

This has to be very frustrating for you and other artists. Unfortunately, many artists are forced to do that! It won't detract from your gorgeous works of art!

Dena, I am so sad to hear you have to go thru this. Your work is such a joy to look at. You have helped me in so many ways with colouring with distress inks, and for that I am so grateful. You inspire me each and every post. I feel so badly for you and just can't believe people do this. Wow. A watermark is not going to take away the gorgeous talent you have, let me tell you.....you are one of my favourites. You are my cup of coffee in the morning!LOL

I too have had to water mark my images as I found someone had downloaded them to a CD to sell, it makes me so mad, like you I spend ages colouring images and for someone else to steal your hard work is awful. Your cards are beautiful and the watermark won`t detract from that, hugs Sara xx

And scanning your images?! Okay?! How messed up is that?! Well .. yea .. we all know how GORGEOUS your colouring is! But c'mon .. she shouldn't have been putting them on her cards and then selling them on ebay! Yikes! What a turd! Awwwww .. giving you huge hugs right now. Totally agree with you sweetie its incredible how low people will go to & its shocking!! We put so much time, effort & love into what we craft, its what we love to do & to get someone to come along & steal something in a matter of seconds what takes us hours to do takes the biscuit.
To be honest hun even putting a watermark on your work will NOT distract anything from the gorgeous creations you do, they will outshine any watermark I promise you. Its such a shame that there are people out there who ruin it for others. I always try to give credit where credit is due, whether it be a tutorial or even just an idea its nice to give credit cus if it wasnt for that inspiration or tutorial you wouldn't have made what you have......unfortunately there are some who dont have this sort of decency in them & they should feel damn ashamed!!

Lotsa hugs Vicky xxx

Dena, I am so sorry to hear this is happening to you! Some people have no morals and don't care how much they hurt others. I can't imagine even wanting to do that in the first place. The creating is the fun part of making cards. Why would you want to steal someone else's work when they already did the fun part?! Anyway, hope it gets resolved soon. It does stink that we have to watermark everything to deter a few bad eggs. Hugs!

Dena your work is in a class of it's own. What a shameful pity that some no-talent wannabee has purloined it and pretended it was theirs.

Your work is beautiful and inspirational. Your colouring is second to none and it is always a pleasure to visit and be inspired. Please watermark your work to protect it. It won't take away from it's perfection and will still continue to encourage and inspire crafters from all over the world.

Like everyone else, I am appalled at the lengths that some people will go to, to make a fsat buck off somebody else's work! As crafters and designers, we rely on the honesty of those that we share our work with and on the majority, the blog and online craft community is awesome - it is such a shame that a hand full of people spoil it for everyone else! Can't believe this is happening, sweetie; I heard about stealing black and white images and even make cd's with them, how horrible, but never thought this was possible with colored images. I never put the watermark on the stamped image, but I guess this would be the solution to stop the theft and even reduce the clarity of the photo so that it couldn't be scanned. These are harsh methods but these people simply have no shame.
Maybe you should point at them nominally, as Mo does, so that they should be exposed. Our crafting world is big but nevertheless there are so many wonderful people out there who are always ready to cry out loud felony and report it.
I totally understand your frustration; I know how much work goes into coloring those images or making tutorials; sending you biggest of hugs; we are all there to support your cause.

YES! I saw this on Pinterest the other day. People there are also "pinning" cards and then copying them. While I had a watermark created by the lady who created my blog, I often forget to use it but after reading her warning the other day, I began using it again. In fact, I am also having another watermark created that not only lists my name, but also my blog address. Sad, but you MUST PROTECT your work!

I have only just seen this Dena as i am not well so have just been dipping in and out of the net but, i have to say that this is a disgusting way for another, 'so called' crafter, to behave towards another crafter and in my mind this person/persons are not true crafters, because if they were they firstly would not do this to another crafter and secondly, a true crafter would want their own work to shine not someone else's so i am happy in the knowledge that they have been outted, and you are copyrighting your work and happy to say (and i dont do this lightly) that whoever you are i KNOW you are reading this as you are so self obsessed, you won't be able to resist reading these posts, so i will take this opportunity to say to you, you are a sorry excuse for a crafter and fellow human being and aren't capable of your own art so you have to steal a friend of mine's work, well i hope you are happy with the money you have made, cause thats all you have, money, no integrity, no conscience, no decency and no friends, obviously, or they would tell you how wrong you really are!

Hiya Dena,How are you hunny?

Terrible times that we live in on blogland of late?

So much of this horrible copying going on!

From the begining when I started Blogging I learned to make my own watermark with PICASSA which is free from Google - IF anyone needs instructions I can help - VERY EASY and straight Forward to do!

YOUR work is amazing and beautiful and a CREDIT TO YOU - NOT ANYONE ELSE- HORRID PEOPLE STEALING IS WRONG no matter what means you use! IF it is not yours DON'T TOUCH!

I know you are angry and so is everyone else too including me - Believe this though -

It is a compliment that your work is so amazing that THEY WANT IT (CAN'T HAVE IT and CAN'T DO IT EITHER)!

Take a positive from this hunny, where you can and don't let it sadden you too much, that it will affect your work!

NO ONE is worth that!

You have amazing support,Friends and lots of Love and support around you and we are a Bunch of Crafters eh?
We do all band together and will do what we can to help each other!

If I can do anything to help,Just let me know!

A watermark is the way to go and it does not detract from an image at all - It will protect your work and also you can add more than one watermark in a transparent format that you can add over flowers and other embellishments that will not appear unless you try to copy them.

You can also make your image smaller so that it can not be enlarged without losing quality so useless for anyone to copy!

Sorry hunny ,I am on a rampage here!

Take care and I so look forward to seeing your gorgeous cards with a Watermark!

Big Hugs
Casper

Hi Dena - Oh I'm so sorry to hear you've had trouble with this & just had to offer my support.
